The Executive Service Corps of the Charlotte Region (ESCCR) announced that its Board of directors has reluctantly voted to suspend active operations effective December 31, 2007. However, its flagship program, Building Better Boards, will continue through its planned conclusion in the spring of 2008. ESCCR will also fully honor other commitments already underway without disruption.

Based on a national model, ESCCR was launched in 2004 with major support of the Foundation for the Carolinas and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to meet the capacity building needs of nonprofits in governance, leadership and service delivery. After diligently pursuing multiple funding and affiliation options, and faced with the same challenges as many other nonprofits, the organization finds it necessary to yield to market forces, as it has been unable to identify a sustainable model.

With a sense of great accomplishment, ESCCR reports that over 1500 individuals representing 120 organizations have benefited from the Building Better Boards program and in the past three-and-a-half years, it has provided consulting services to over fifty (50) nonprofit organizations utilizing over 3000 volunteer consulting hours in the process.

“It is our hope that we effectively addressed many nonprofit needs in what has been an exciting, affirming and rewarding three years of service to the Charlotte region’s nonprofit community,” states Interim Executive Director, Rosalyn Allison-Jacobs.  “Donna Arrington, the founding Executive Director, and I are very proud of what we were able to accomplish in such a short time.”
